  9. If you encounter program termination with an error code ( i.e. Exception
  10. 0001 ), you have one of the following problems:
  11.  
  12. 0001 : Memory Allocation Error : There is not enough available memory to
  13.    run BACKLASH.  BACKLASH requires 500k free conventional memory and
  14.    750k available extended or expanded memory.  Refer to the MS-DOS manual
  15.    for information on making more memory available.
  16.  
  17. 0002 : Missing Resource File : A file required by the program is missing.
  18.    Re-install the software to fix the problem.  If that does not fix the
  19.    problem, get a new copy of the release.
  20.  
  21. 0010 : Corrupted Resource File : The contents of one of the files has
  22.    been corrupted.  Re-install the software to fix the problem.  If that
  23.    does not fix the problem, get a new copy of the release.
  24.  
  25. Other error numbers indicate an internal problem that can only be fixed
  26. by updating the software.

  28. Configuring a Sound Card
  29. ----------- - ----- ----

  31. BACKLASH only supports 100% SoundBlaster compatible sound cards.  Some cards
  32. require special configuration in order to set up "SoundBlaster Compatibility
  33. Mode".  Refer to the sound card documentation for more details.
  34.  
  35. An improperly configured sound card can cause a variety of problems.
  36.  
  37. Problem  : No sound, no music.
  38. Fix      : Make sure that the software is set up to use a sound card.
  39.  
  40. Problem  : No sound, music works.
  41. Fix      : Make sure that the software is set up to use the sound card as
  42.            a sound effects device.  Verify that the base address configured
  43.            for the sound card is correct.
  44.  
  45. Problem  : Sound plays then stops, music works
  46. Fix      : The interrupt channel for the sound card is not correct.
  47.            Determine the proper interrupt channel for the sound card
  48.            configuration and reconfigure the sound card using the set up
  49.            program.

  51. Problem  : No sound, no music, program "locks"
  52. Fix      : The DMA channel for the sound card is not correct.  Determine
  53.            the proper DMA channel for the sound card configuration and
  54.            reconfigure the sound card using the set up program.

  56. Other Problems

  59. The file BL.OUT is generated when BACKLASH is run.  The contents of the file
  60. may be useful in determining the conflicts with the machine configuration.
